Guest Speaker: Ed Freeman @ Rouse Hall (McIntire School) Room 116, 4:30-5:30pm

Ed Freeman currently serves as University Professor and Elis and Signe Olsson Professor of Business Administration at the Darden School of Business here at UVA. Professor Freeman is the leading authority in the fields of stakeholder management, business ethics, executive leadership, and corporate social responsibly. Additional information can be found on his website. This lecture promoting corporate leadership and the opportunity it has to create a more sustainable, socially responsible and economically beneficial future is part of a leadership project from a fourth year undergraduate student, Taylor Grey.

Come find out about what gets recycled, what gets composted, and what gets sent to the landfill at UVa!

Backsite Days! @ Recycling Warehouse (Leake Dr.) 8am-3pm

Have you ever wondered where recyclables all over grounds go? Then come take a tour of the UVa Recycling facilities and help sort recycling materials at the backsite (wear closed toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty!). Before leaving be sure to scan the ROSE shelves, a program for the UVa community to take or donate used office materials free of charge. Drop by the Recycling Warehouse anytime during these open hours to take a tour, sort materials, or check out ROSE (or all three)!

A 5k run/walk to benefit cancer research at UVA through the Patients & Friends Research Fund. The run is 3.14 (pi!) miles, starting and ending at Thornton Hall. Run through grounds with us!
Community Garden Composter Build Day @ Community Garden 11am
The ESWB Community Garden Team is putting together a composter for the UVA Community Garden! This composter will house worms that will break down food and other compostable materials into soil for the garden to use. Help spread sustainability and contribute to your UVA community by helping us build this composter. No experience necessary; you will be taught the necessary skills. Please RSVP via this form as soon as possible!

SustainaCooking @Lorna Sundberg International Center 4-6pm

Net Impact is teaming up with Cavalier Cooking at the International Center to host a sustainable cooking class featuring local, sustainable vegetarian/pescetarian options with big international flavors! Join Kevin Nguyen, the seasoned host of Cavalier Cooking, as he teaches these healthy and environmentally friendly dishes.

GIFT Project Showcase @ Newcomb Lounge 12-1pm

The Green Initiative Funding Tomorrow (GIFT) Grant Committee recently awarded $30,000 worth of grant money to fund sustainable projects on Grounds. Our 2013-2014 grant recipients will be sharing about their efforts, accomplishments, and future goals.  This year’s grant recipients include Community Garden Composting, Bike Lights Distribution, Zero Waste Athletics, Retrofit Drinking Fountains, Darden’s Refreshing First Coffee, Newcomb Composting, the Hereford Rain Garden, and Redefining Transporting.  Stop by to talk with grantees, enjoy a complimentary lunch, and catch up on some of the latest sustainability efforts at UVa.

Global Water Games Gameplay in Celebration of Earth Day @Brown Science and Engineering Library 2:30-5pm

Global Water Games is a UVA sustainability project that applies interactive game technology to watershed education and stewardship and to multi-sector capacity building for watershed policy innovation.
